In addition, stream
depletions caused by mining must also be compensated. VCI is making this app]ica6on for a
SWSP to address its water use at the SRWGP (DMG Permit No. M-O1-113), in Gunnison
County, Colorado. This application describes the mining operation and the water available to
replace the facility's water use. Information in this report is based on uses projected by VCI,
aerial photographs, data from various agencies, information from Case No. 96CW267 and the
state's consultation in that case, and previous experience.
During mining, projected water uses aze dust control of 1.1 a-f per yeaz and water lost
with the product of 2.9 a-f per yeaz. The pit's exposed ground water at its full development will
tota139.62 acres, and the evaporation will average 93.44 a-f per yeaz. The mining's water
demand totals 97.46 a-f per yeaz. Reclamation use will be the evaporation of 93.44 a-f per yeaz.
An existing pit (DMG Permit No. M-96-44) on the same property is still being mined.
Provisions for the water use at this pit were decreed in Case No. 96CW267. It will be used to
store credits for subsequent release during the non-irrigation season.
The SRWGP is in former Water District 28, Water Division 4 in the Gunnison River
basin. Figure 3 is an aerial photograph of the location that shows the water features on the site
as of September, 1996.
