1 <br /> 1 <br /> The only surface water feature to be altered by the mining will be the <br /> I <br /> ' drainage/seepage ditch that crosses the property from the northwest to the <br /> southeast. This ditch will be mined-through and routed into the mined lake and <br /> ' will be routed back out into the ditch to exit the property offsite. This procedure is <br /> ' explained more fully in Exhibit D, Mine Plan. No gains or losses to the flow of the <br /> ditch should occur. Prior to this activity, the operator will obtain an NPDES <br /> discharge permit, if required. <br /> ' Sewage lagoons of the North La Junta sewage treatment plant are located <br /> approximately 300 feet west of the permit boundary. The excavation will not <br /> affect these lagoons. <br /> Ground Water <br /> The approximate locations of potential wells located within 600 feet of the permit <br /> ' boundary for the North River Pit are described in the accompanying "Substitute <br /> Supply Plan" submitted as part of this Exhibit. All wells listed as being potentially <br /> within 600 ft. of the permit boundary are alluvial and do not derive their waters <br /> from a bedrock aquifer. Both alluvial and bedrock wells do exist in the area. <br /> Three alluvial wells are owned by the applicant and are located within the permit <br /> area. These wells were formerly operated for farm irrigation. They will be <br /> removed and mined-out as part of the mine plan. <br /> Alluvial groundwater fluctuates from between 18 inches and 30 inches below the <br /> ' ground surface in the area of the proposed North River Pit.
