We've really wrestled with the .Lssue, and <br />I think at this point we are fairly convinced that <br />the pit in the configuration proposed, given the <br />topsoiling, the revegetation, the stabilit;r and the <br />lack of water being impounded would be of beneficial <br />use. It's probably more beneficial than most pits <br />that you will see in the State today. <br />Concerning leakage of cyanide <br />solutions into ground and surface waters, we have <br />required a double-lined system beneath all structures <br />which would contain cyanide solutions. <br />The permeabilities of the amended <br />soil of the HDPE as well as the use of the leak <br />detection which would also serve as a secondary <br />recovery system, if you will, by use of pumps, we <br />feel is sufficient to inhibit the flow of solutions <br />,away from the pad areas. <br />Concerning the independent monitoring <br />of leak detection systems within the pad area, the <br />Division, as part of its duties, will be inspecting <br />the site on a periodic basis, as we do at all the <br />sites, and we will monitor the leak detection systems <br />
