The shale section appears
to be mainly leached of its calcareous material.
Sandstone fractions included in the shaly matrix vary
from highly weathered, friable, and tan, to hard, dense,
calcareous, and white to gray. Locally a zone of
weathered sandstone fragments of variable size includes 20~
lenses up to 2' long just below the humus cover.
Lenticular clay, and weathered shale, both light tan colored and
calcareous, with common sandstone fractions occur in the trench down to the
lower bench on which water ponded.
