Below the soil is a dark brown, tough plastic clay. About 2' to
3' below the top of the trench cut the clay becomes calcareous and is marked by
an irregular network of white calcite(?) streaks. A distinct color and
composition change from dark gray or brown calcareous clay above to tan to
brown clayey matrix with common sandstone fractions, occurs about 4' below the
top of the trench cut.
In the lower part of the trench between eight and 18' a lenticular block
of clay is apparent and is similar to the dark, tough, plastic clay that occurs
below the soil cover. Partly below this clay lens extending from about 13' to
27' is a dark gray shale with weathered limonitic(?) sandstone in the bottom
one-third of the trench. This shale contains blocks of dark gray clay up to 2'
in maximum dimension.
25
3
s
0
v
K
m
0
y
N
C
m
.-

o
O
z
0
o '~
T
