Below the soil is a weathered clay and shale bed about 2.5' to 3'
thick with scattered pieces of sandstone some of which are weathered with a
limonitic(?) stain. The shale is dark brown with irregular white streaks of
calcite(?). The entire section is largely calcareous.
The section exposed between the upper and lower benches is about 5' of
dark brown calcareous shale that weathers tan to orange (limonitic(?) blebs or
spots}. The shale is somewhat mottled with lighter brown or tan spots.
In the lower part of the trench (northern end) the material is the same as
above except that the upper part of what appears to be a lens of sandstone
appears in the bottom of the trench. About 1' to 3' above this sandstone is
another lens of sandy material which is weathered.

0
m
z
m
O
r
O
D
0
Ll
m
0
r
0
cl
N
N
D
C
m
O
D
Z
m
J ; N
~
s
m m

N

m
10
~g 9 y a
p
~ m .,
r

a
~n ~'

15
~

~
n
m

s
v
a
H
m
z
0
0
T
z
0
