Dunfee:
ENVIRONMENTAL AFFAIRS
Jl1' 1 ~ 1992
PEABOOy COA~ICOMPANY
REFER TO
For Il`ildli(c-
For Pcaple
• In regards to your request for information on threatened and
endangered species within the areas of Peabody's proposed
exploration activities I find that the only specie that might be
affected is the Greater Sandhill Crane This bird is currently
listed on Colorado`s endangered specie list. The Division has
identified nest sites in the following areas:
1. T5N R87W Sec(s);34 and•35 (Fish Creek)
2. T6N R87W Sec 20 (Sage Creek)
In both these drainages the nests are located adjacent to the
streams in wetland habitats. Nesting activity will have been
completed by the time your exploration activities commence.
Additionally, unless you were working within very close proximity ••
to a nest site, no negative impacts would be anticipated.
Based on the timing of the proposed exploration activities I do not
anticipate any negative impacts to this specie.
//~~''~~ iR n~ cer'ely~~~~~~
( \ James M.
