Casket' <br />Regional Wildlife Manager <br />Colorado Department of Wildlife <br />711 Independent Avenue <br />Grand Junction, CO 81505 <br />Dear Mr. Caskey: <br /> <br />Peabody submitted a Notice of Intent to Explore for <br />Coal (Permit No. CX-92-168-25) to the Colorado <br />Mined Land Reclamation Division on June 10, 1992. <br />The Division deemed the Notice incomplete because <br />it did not contain a statement from the appropriate <br />wildlife agency regarding whether the exploration <br />and reclamation activities will jeopardize the <br />continued existence of endangered or threatened <br />species. <br />Enclosed please find three map sheets which <br />delineate the areas where Peabody proposes to <br />conduct exploration activities. We request that <br />your Department review the status of threatened and <br />endangered species within these areas. We further <br />request a letter summarizing the results of the <br />review, including a statement regarding whether or <br />not our activities will jeopardize threatened or <br />endangered species. <br />The activities are planned to begin about July 13, <br />1992 and extend for a period of about 2; months. <br />The areas include: 1) Section 10 (TSN R88W) on the <br />Dry ^_reek Map; 2) Sections 23, 26, 27, 14 and 35 <br />(T5.'" ~88W) on the Seneca II-W Area map; and 3) all <br />or portions of several sections (T5N RII7W) on the <br />Y~tist Area With Property map. Known exploration <br />hole locations arc shown on the latter two maps; <br />however, Peabody would prefer to clear each entire <br />area should future exploration plans necessitate <br />additional holes. <br /> <br />t700 $OUIn Vale <br />F~agsfa„.
