~r~
1
PE480DY COAL COMPANY
Western Dlvlslon
June 24, 1992

Mr. Robert H. Casket'
Regional Wildlife Manager
Colorado Department of Wildlife
711 Independent Avenue
Grand Junction, CO 81505
Dear Mr. Caskey:

Peabody submitted a Notice of Intent to Explore for
Coal (Permit No. CX-92-168-25) to the Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Division on June 10, 1992.
The Division deemed the Notice incomplete because
it did not contain a statement from the appropriate
wildlife agency regarding whether the exploration
and reclamation activities will jeopardize the
continued existence of endangered or threatened
species.
Enclosed please find three map sheets which
delineate the areas where Peabody proposes to
conduct exploration activities. We request that
your Department review the status of threatened and
endangered species within these areas. We further
request a letter summarizing the results of the
review, including a statement regarding whether or
not our activities will jeopardize threatened or
endangered species.
The activities are planned to begin about July 13,
1992 and extend for a period of about 2; months.
The areas include: 1) Section 10 (TSN R88W) on the
Dry ^_reek Map; 2) Sections 23, 26, 27, 14 and 35
(T5.'" ~88W) on the Seneca II-W Area map; and 3) all
or portions of several sections (T5N RII7W) on the
Y~tist Area With Property map. Known exploration
hole locations arc shown on the latter two maps;
however, Peabody would prefer to clear each entire
area should future exploration plans necessitate
additional holes.

t700 $OUIn Vale
F~agsfa„.
