<br />VEGETATION SUMMARY <br />SENECA II-W AREA/DRY CREEK AREA <br />Vegetation <br />At elevations of around 6000-8000 feet, the following general types occur in the <br />drilling area: Aspen, Mountain Brush, and Sagebrush-grass. Briefly, these types <br />may be described ae: <br />Sagebrush-arses - Types occurring on lower slopes and ridges dominated by low <br />shrubs and big sagebrush (Artemesia tridentate); other species include snowberry <br />(SVrtmhorocaraos ~) and forbe such ae arrowleaf balsamroot (Halsamorhiza <br />saaittata), lupines (L~inus sue), clover (Trifolium), spring parsley, and prairie <br />onion (Allium textile). Grasses make up a small percent of the total herbage. <br />Mountain Hrush - Thie ie a major group on sandier soils, north and east elopes, <br />and high ridges. Species include gambell oak (4uercus aambelli), chokecherry <br />(Prunus virginiana), Saskatoon eerviceberry (Amelanchier alnifolia). Forbs <br />include starwort (Stellaria craseifolia), western yellow (Achilles lanulosa), <br />larkspur (Delphinium sp), and Fenaler meadowrue (Thalictrum fendleri). Some <br />grasses and sedges occur also. <br />Aspen types - Occur on higher northfacing elopes or in pockets where snow <br />collects, seeps provide additional moisture on protected perennial stream <br />drainages at lower elevations. Forbs occur such ae angelica (Angelica ~), false <br />hellebore (Veratrum californicum), Columbine (Aavilegia ~), and delphinium. <br />Grasses such ae mountain,brome may occur in patches. <br />Stony, rocky areas may have a mixture of brush, types, grasses, and forbe <br />including gambell oak, true mountainmahogany (Cercocarnus montanue), fringed <br />eagevort (Artemesia frigida), broom snakeweed (Gutierrezia sarothrae), a number <br />of forbe and such grasses ae Indian ricegraee (Orvzoasis hvmenoidee), bluebunch <br />wheatgraee (Agropvron eoicatum), and Baain wildrye (Elvmus cinereus). <br />Wildlife usage of these areas and grazing of cattle are the two major uses of the <br />land nrea not being mined. <br /> <br />
