® LsE BAYERTON-MAITLAND complex, 25 to 60 percent slopes.
This unit consists of about 40 percent Sanchez, 25 percent Dargol and 25
percent Maitland. This unit is mapped on steep sideslopes Where the
soils ere shallow (10 to 40 inches) to interbedded sandstone and shale.
This unit is too steep to be cropped. However, it does offer limited
grazi~~g and wildlife habitat.
CAPABILITY WOODLAND SITE
Irrigated Ponderosa Pinc
Non-Irrigated VIIe
LT LOUVIERS-TRAVESSILLA-ROCK OUTCROP complex, 25 to 85 percent slopes.
This unit consists of about 40 percent Louviers, 35 percent Travessilla,
and 2G percent Rock Outcrop. These soils are mapped on steep areas
where interbedded sandstone and shale lie near the surface. Because of
its rough nature and thick canopy of pinyon and juniper trees this unit
can offer only limited grazing, however, it is an important wildlife
gabitat,
CAPABILITY WOODLAND SITE
Irrigated Pinyon - Juniper
Non-Irrigated UIIe
LTE LODUIERS-TRAVESSILLA complex, 3 to 25 percent slopes.
This complex consists of about 40 percent Louviers, 35 percent
Travessilla a~~d 10 percent Rock Outcrop. The Louviers soil is less than
20 inches to soft shale bedrock. Permeability is slow and water holding
capacity is low. Travessilla is less than 20 inches to sandstone.
Available water holding capacity is low. The erosion hazard is severe
and runoff is rapid. Native vegetation is predominantly pinyon, juniper
and oakbrush. Use is limited to grazing and wildlife habitat.
CAPABILITY WOODLAND SITE
Irrigated Ponderosa Pine
Non-Irrigated VIe
PP OLNEI'-PROGRESSO sandy loam s, 3 to 15 percent slopes.
This is a soil complex consisting of about 45 percent Olney, 35 percent
Progresso and 20 percent included shallow soils, These soils occur on
sloping uplands in the foothills. The Olney has .a sandy loam surface, a
sandy clay loam subsurface and a limey sandy loam substratum extending
to 60 inches or more. The Progresso is similar except sandstone bedrock
occurs between 20 and 40 inches. These soils take water well, have a
high water holding capacity and moderate permeability. Erosion hazard
is severe on steeper slopes. Natural vegetation is mostly pinyon and
juniper with a grass understory. This unit is used for grazing and
wildlife.
CAPABILITY RANGE SITE
onI~ Irrigated VIe Loam- y foothills 50°0
P8J5O%

J. F SATO & ASSOCIATES, INC.
