2
Table x.06.8-1. Explanatory Notes to Soil Classification in the Pryor Mine
Permit Area.
1WK WILEY-KIM looms, 2 to 9 percent slope.
This unit is approximately 55~ Wiley and 35% Kim. These are well
drained soils on uplands. Wiley soil has a silt loam surface layer and
a silty clay loam subsoil, and is underlain by limey silt loam material.
It is usually found on the more level portions of the area. Kim soil
has a loam surface layer and is underlain by calcareous, loamy
materials. This soil is on the steeper slopes and ridge tops. These
soils take water at a moderate rate, have high water holding capacity
and have moderate permeability. Runoff is medium and erosion hazard is
severe. Dry farming is not recommended. Vegetation is short grass and
use is dominantly grazing.
CAPABILITY RANGE SITE
Irrigated IVE Loamy Plains
Non Irrigated VIe
CL NODEN loam, 1 to 9 percent slopes.
These soils are deep, with inclusion of medium depth soils. (20 to 40
inches over bedrock). This unit has dark colored loam surface layer
underlain by clay loam textured subsoils and substratums. These soils
are derived from sandstone and shale and are dominantly non-calcareous.
They take .water well, have high water holding capacity and have
moderately slow permea.~.ility. Runoff is rapid on steeper areas and
erosion hazard is moderate. This unit could be cropped. However,
extreme care should be used to protect against erosion.
CAPABILITY RANGE SITE
Irrigated IUe Loamy Foothills
Non-Irrigated IVe
BC BONG-NODEN sandy looms, 1 to 9 percent slopes.
This complex consists of about 45A Bond 'loam and 40A Noden loam. These
soils are well drained soils on uplands. The Bond soil has sandstone
bedrock occuring at less than 2D inches. The Noden soil is deeper than
60 inches to bedrock. Erosion hazard is moderate. Because of the
erosion hazard and percent of shallow soil, this unit is not recomnended
for farming. However, small areas are farmed primarily in the Noden
portion. Vegetation is grass with scattered Pinyon and Juniper trees.
CAPABILITI' RANGE S1TE
Irrigated Shallow Foothills 60A
Nan-Irrigatcd VIe Loamy Foothills 40.°6
JFSA - 73
~' .~ 359

J. 1: SAIQ & ASSOCIATES INC.
