~~ ~ i
reclamation plans to be presented at the end of that year. In-
progress reclamation will proceed as soon as portions of the quarry
are abandoned. Two (2) final reclamation plan options will be pre-
sented in this report (as well as the in-progress reclamation plans)
pending the outcome of certain legal and contractural problems.
The operation will commence at the eastern extreme of the quarry and
proceed west. Extraction will start at the top of the existing
backslope at the eastern end and work down to the floor of the pit
leaving three 16'--20' wide benches at 15' vertical intervals. The
benching of the eastern portion of the quarry will continue all along
the backslopes of the entire quarry upon completion of the extraction
at this site. The slopes between benches will be approximately one
vertical foot to one horizontal foot.
Traffic
The following comments pertain to truck traffic related to the quarry operation:
1) The truck activity during operation will be for maintenance
purposes and probably will be in the range of 5 to 50 trips per day.
(Figure 4)
2) Existing traffic on U.S. 285 at this location is currently at
3,500 A.D.T. which is below maximum capacity levels.
3) I have notified the Colorado Highway Department of the proposed
activity, and they are reviewing the need for signing at the site.
4) During my field inspection of the site, two County trucks entered
the site by traveling a short distance in the direction of on-
coming traffic on the wrong side of the traffic island.
All pit access from the east should be as diagramed. (Figure 5)
5) The pit should be posted to eliminate parking of a number of
private cars that were observed at the site.
6) A truck turning notification sign should be placed on the Pine Road.
7) With proper signing and driver precautions, the proposed activity
should have no significant adverse traffic impact.
Safety
Two safety recommendations should be made concerning this operation:
1) Signs stating that a Jefferson County quarrying operation is
located here should be posted at the northern side of the quarry
-4-
