Banks and Gesso, LLC
To totally reclaim the site as proposed, all of the approximately 880,00 CY of
overburden, as well as 710,000 CY of waste fines will be required. There should be no
need to import material to complete reclamation to desired post mining configurations.
Topsoil Replacement
After overburden replacement, approximately six inches of topsoil will be re-spread over
disturbed areas to provide a proper medium for revegetation. It is anticipated that all of
the topsoil stripped from the site will be needed during reclamation. Topsoil will not be
re-spread when the ground is frozen, excessively wet or in any way unsuitable. Soils
that are excessively compacted will be chiseled or disced to break up compaction, then
harrowed down.
Reveoetation
All surface areas disturbed by mining activities will be topsoiled and drill-seeded for final
reclamation with native seed mixes. We have been in contact with the Natural
Resources Conservation Services Field Office located in Montrose County. However,
they have indicated that they would prefer to wait until the application has been
submitted before they make any recommendations on vegetation type and seed mixes.
The Applicant is committed to working with the NRCS and following (heir
recommendations as it pertains to preferred vegetation.
Maintenance
Mowing will be performed for at least 2 years following seeding to help establish
regenerating stands of grasses and to control weed infestation. Seeded areas will be
mulched with straw or hay mulch. Fertilizer will be applied to areas of the site where
poor nutrient availability is indicated by a failure of seed to become established.
Weed Control Plan
Basetl on information obtained from the Montrose County Weed Manager, Laurie Felix,
this Weed Control Plan has been prepared. Weed control methods will be carried out as
described below.
Haldorson Sand and Gravel Mine 03023
Haldorson and Sons, Inc. April 2003
12
