Banks and Gesso, LLC
Phase 2
Just prior to completion of mining in Phase 1, backfilling will occur by moving the
stockpiled overburden from Phase 1 stripping operations into the mined out northern
edge of Phase 1. After overburden removal, stripping of Phase 2 areas will begin. Once
a large enough area for the plant is developed, it will be relocated to this phase area.
This will allow mining to continue from phase to phase without pause. Approximately
23,500 CY of topsoil and 188,000 CY of overburden will be stripped and stockpiled for
later use in reclamation.
Stripped topsoil from Phase 2 areas will be placed directly onto backfilled portions of
Phase 1 areas to the greatest degree possible. Leftover topsoil will be placed in berms
located along the east and west edges of the Phase 2 mine area to serve as screening
berms. Overburden will be placed directly into mined out portions of the Phase 1 area.
Mining will again proceed from north to south and will occur at 3:1 slopes. Excavated
materials will then be transported to the processing area via off-road haul trucks and
conveyors. As in Phase 1, as soon as the mining edges reach a point near the plants,
stripping of Phase 3 areas will begin to allow for relocation of the plant to that area. After
the plant has been relocated, the area beneath the plant will be mined out.
Approximately 2.5 million tons of sand and gravel will be extracted during Phase 2
operations. Phase 2 is expected to last approximately 5 years.
Phase 3
As mining in Phase 2 nears its limits, stripping of Phase 3 will begin, which will again
allow for plant relocation and mining to proceed without pause. Concurrent with these
operations, the overburden from this area will be placed directly in mined out portions of
Phase 1 and 2 areas. Topsoil from Phase 3 will consist of approximately 20,500 CY and
to the greatest degree possible will be placed on areas in Phase 1 and 2 that have been
backfilled to desired post-mining grade. Excess topsoil will be stockpiled along the east
and west property boundaries for later use in reclamation. Approximately 185,000 CY of
overburden will be stripped for use in reclamation.
As in previous phases, mining in Phase 3 will proceed from north to south and will occur
at 3:1 slopes. Excavated materials will then be transported to the processing area via
off-road haul trucks and conveyors. As soon as the mining limits have been reached,
Haldorson Sand and Gravel Mine 03023
Haldorson and Sons, Inc. April 2003
8
