Aoolicatiou Exhibits E -Reclamation Plan and G -Water Information
Mr. Davis expressed concerns about the effect of the operation on his irrigation and domestic
water wells.
2. Mr. Davis also expressed his concern that the site will be used for water storage with the ability
to create a lazge amount of stagnant water.
3. Flood control down river from the operation.
4. Contamination of ground water.
5. The effects the removal of aggregate will have on the levels of water in the river.
The effects the removal of aggregate will have on the course of the river.
Methods of how the area will be reclaimed.
Resaonses
Effects on Wells
An examination of the mine plan map shows that the neazest pit excavation adjacent to the Davis
property is on the opposite side of the South Platte River from the Davis propery. The pit will be set
back 200 feet from the river and the river is another 100 feet wide. It is not known how faz from the
river Mr. Davis' wells aze, but if they are placed outside the 100-year floodplain they would be at least
600 feet from any pit excavation. Based on these distances the Division does not believe there will be
any adverse effect on Mr. Davis' wells. In addition, the applicant has committed to placing eight
monitoring wells around the perimeter of the site and has committed to mitigation measures if historic
water production from the wells is injured.
2. Stagnant Water
Because of the depth and surface area of the lakes, as well as wind action and water inflow and outflow
from rechazge and dischazge. The Division does not believe there will be a stagnant water problem.
3. (Flood Control)
The operation will not contribute additional water during floods. In fact during mining the pits could
lessen floods to some extent by adding water storage capacity. The operator has committed to
maintaining a 200-foot setback from the river during the flood prone season from April l to October 1,
and the Division is requiring a stipulation that, "Prior to mining within 400 feet of the top of the bank
of the South Platte River, the Operator will provide and gain approval of a technical revision that
includes an evaluation of the stability of riverside berms to be left at the conclusion of mining."
4. Contamination of groundwater
