The principal spillway inlet will also be used as the nonclogging
dewatering device and is located at an elevation higher than the maximum
sediment storage volume (Elev. 5697.0). The principal spillway inlet is
a 0.5-inch diameter hole located on the riser of the emergency spillway
drop inlet structure (see Exhibit 13-13) and located in a position on
the embankment so as to prevent short-circuiting as much as possible.
The stage-discharge relationship of the emergency spillway inlet (12"
CMP) was calculated using SEDIMOT II, while the stage-discharge
relationship of the principal spillway inlet was calculated using the
orifice flow equation below:
Q = C Ao 2gH
where:
Q = discharge in cfs
C = coefficient of discharge = 0.6
Ao = cross sectional Area = 0.0014 ft.2 (.OS-inch diameter)
g = gravitational constant = 32.2 ft/sec.z
H = head (ft.) = 0 to 5.0 ft.
Elevation H ft cfs
5697.0 0.0 0.0
5698.0 1.0 0.007
5699.0 2.0 0.009
5700.0 3.0 0.011
5701.0 4.0 0.013
5702.0 5.0 0.015
Table 7 is a summary of the spillway data.
10
