203 <br />,• <br />Site: 5MF322 (Fig. 5). <br />Site Type: Open lithiC. <br />zocation: NW;SW';, Sec. 1, 75n, R92w; UTM Zone 13, E272,925m., N4,477,125m. <br />Description: 5MF322 is located 10 m. east of the Yampa River on the first <br />terrace and the steep, west-facing slope behind it. The elevation at the <br />site is 6310 ft. (1,923 m.). The vegetation consists of sagebrush, mountain <br />mahogony, grasses, cactus, willows, cottonwood, and Gamble's oak, <br />Flakes and artifactual materials were observed eroding from the steep <br />bank behind the terrace and lying on the terrace itself, covering an area <br />55 by 75 m. Nothing was seen on the higher terrace. No permanent features <br />were observed. The site is eroding and possibly subject to periodic flood- <br />ing by the Yampa River. There is no visible cultural disturbance. <br />~• Diagnostic artifacts: Unifacial scrapers, Type IIA, IIB; and cores, Type I, <br />II. <br />evaluation: 5MF322 lacks potentia] for yielding information important to <br />prehistory and should not be considered for nomination to the NRHP. However, <br />the site may have scientific value and should be given further consideration <br />in the event it is endangered by future developments. <br />.. <br />
