zoo
• Site: 5MF341 (Fig. 5).
site Type: Open camp.
Location: SE<NW;, Sec. 21, TSn, R92w; UTM Zone 13, E268,225m., N4,472,175m.
Description: 5MF341 is an open camp located on a small saddle of the south-
west slope of a northwest-trending ridge which is above an unnamed seasonal
tributary to Milk Creek. The elevation of the site is 7080 ft. (2,158 m.).
Vegetation surrounding the site includes juniper, sagebrush, and grasses.
The nearest water is in Milk Creek 1,500 m. to the west.
The site covers an area 25 by 50 m., which includes two concentrations
of chipping debris near the edges of the site. The site is aligned parallel
to the ridge, but in a small embayment which allows a more easterly exposure
and shelter from the north and west. Artifactual material is limited to
! • flakes, undiagnostic biface fragments, and a projectile point. There was,
however, a small amount of bone associated with the site; hence it is con-
sidered an open camp rather than a lithic site.
There is no apparent disturbance to the site, either natural or cultural,
but there are tobacco tins, soft drink containers ,and rifle cartridges in the
near vicinity..
Diagnostic Artifacts: Projectile point, Type VB.
Evaluation: SMF341 lacks potential for yielding information important to pre-
history and should not be nominated to the NRHP. The site requires no further
action.
