Section 779.12 (a) Continued.
• Energy Fuels expects that its surface mining operations in the mine
plan area will be carried on through 1987. Most of the proposed
mining, will occur in the area encompassed by the recently-issued
Federal Coal Lease No. C-22644, otherwise known as the Eckman Park
area. Mining in the Energy Mine No. 2 area will cease upon the
exhaustion of the reserves prior to the end of 1979. The size,
sequence, and timing of the sub-areas of the. mine plan area for
which it is anticipated that individual permits will be requested
over the. estimated total life of the proposed surface mining
~ activities are shown on Energy Mines No. 1 and 2 Mine Plan (Atap 1)
and Eckman Park Kline Plan (Map 2). As can be seen on these two
maps, the initial permit will cover an area the•.t is coincident with
the mine plan area. The reason for this is that Energy Fuels
expects that all but two or three years of the surface recoverable
reserves contained within the mine plan area will be mined out at
the time of the expiration of the initial permit. Disturbance
• associated with the mining which occurs within the first five years
together with disturbance in preparation for mining the remaining
surface recoverable reserves in the mine plan area will occur
within the term of the initial permit and will be virtually coin-
cident with the boundaries of the mine plan area with the exception
of these areas identified as buffer zones. Since the majority of
the surface recoverable reserves with the mine plan area will be
recovered within the first five years, only one additional permit
covering the remaining surface recoverable reserves will be re-
quired unless Energy Fuels is successful in obtaining additional
federal coal recoverable through surface mining methods. Additional
permits will be required, however, in conjunction with the possible
development of future Energy Fuels' underground operations. The
size, sequence, timing and total life of the proposed underground
operations will be dependent upon future coal markets and cannot be
accurately ascertained at this time.
• (b) The nature of cultural and historic resources listed or eligible
for listing on the National Register of Historic Places and known
779-2
