4.0 RARE AND ENDANGERED PLANT SPECIES INVENTORY •
Aaording to the Colorado Natural Heritage Program, no species of concern have been found in the
immediate project area, akhough eight sensitive plant species are known fran within a 30-mile radius.
Because of this proximity, the worst-case assumption was made titat there existed some potential for one
or more taxa to be located in the vegetation study area. This potential was further refined following a
review of habitat requisites of the eight subject taxa resulting in a reduction of the list to there primary
tariget species, the adobe beardstongue (Penstemon retrorsus), Grand Mesa penstemon (Penstemon
mensarum), and a thistle (Grsium perplamns). These three taxa exhibited habitat requisites provided
within the vegetation study area.
As a resuR of site3peaf'~c field efforts, no rare, threatened or endangered plant speaes were found
on or near the vegetation study area. All taxa were targeted with speaal emphasis on the three primary
species, but with negative results. eeouse of past intensive grazing of the proposed disturbance area,
as well as the present paudty of perennial grasses and forts, there exists low potential for any of these
three taxa within the vegetation study area. All of these taxa would require a more pristine, less
disturbed environment A list of ail plant species documented during sfie-specfic search efforts is
provided as Table Vl. .
•
CEDAR CREEK ASSOQAi6, Inc Page 12 E#~ibi[ 5 -Bowie WRDA Vegemtion Survey
