Minor Revision No. 270 Page 3
March 1 a, 2000
• •Remove equipment, trash, materials, etc. from drilling area
As weather conditions improve, final reclamation will be completed on the drill roads and pads.
The following tasks will be completed:
•Backfill and grade to remove new drill roads and pads
•Replace topsoil
•Seed and mulch with USFS approved seed mix and weed-free mulch
•Install barriers as necessary to prevent cattle and the public from entering reclamation
sites
•Install drainage ditches, alternate sediment control measures, etc. to reduce
sedimentation from the reclaimed areas
•Grade and repair drainage on USFS and Wemer permanent roads used by MCC for
drilling project
In addition, MCC will work with the land manager of the Wemer property and the USFS Paonia
District Ranger office to ensure that the disturbed areas will be reclaimed to their satisfaction.
If any of the holes will require future monitoring, Iv1CC will still require access to the drill pads.
MCC will work with the USFS to complete reclamation work at the site to stabilize the site (i.e.,
reduce erosion and sedimentation) and install barriers as appropriate to prevent the public from
• utilizing [he drill roads or pad site.
Sealine
With the information obtained from the drill holes, MCC has been able to determine the general
area of the combustion, and is now planning how to extinguish the combustion. The process will
involve constructing new seals (barriers) in the mine from the surface that will act as a dam.
Then water will be pumped into the combustion azea to extinguish the combustion. A discussion
of the source of water and how it will reach the drill sites is discussed in the next section of this
letter. A secondary process will be to construct seals updip from the initial seals to suffocate the
combustion immediately. However, ivICC has not yet determined if this will be feasible given
the location of the combustion and current drill holes.
MCC is working with Halliburton, a company who has expertise in the construction of these
types of barriers. MCC has written a letter to the U.S. Forest Service regazding how the seals
will be constructed and the type of equipment that will be utilized. This letter was also copied to
DMG, and is included in this minor revision application.
At this time, IvICC is planning to construct three seals. The first seals to be constructed will be at
Holes V, Q, and Z, which aze located on the Wemer property. IvICC has notified Mr. Wemer's
attorney and the land manager of our activities. The construction of the first seal should begin on
. March l4, 2000. As more information about the combustion if obtained, IvICC may decide that
additional seals will be necessary.
