4-75
•

4.7.4.5 Map Unit: HrAB - Havre Loam, 0 to 6 Percent Slopes
This map unit is on nearly level to gently sloping valley bottoms
and flood plains. The slope is 0 to 8 percent. The native vege-
tation is mainly a greasewood-shrubland community.
Included in this map unit is about 10 percent Bankard loamy sand
and about 5 percent stratified alluvium. Included areas make up
about 15 percent of the total acreage. The Bankard soil is a
member of the sandy, mixed, mesic family of the Ustic Torrifluvents.
The alluvium is sandy, gravelly sand and very gravelly sand and a
member of the mixed, mesic family of Ustic Torripsamments.
Typically, the surface layer of the Havre soil is a light brownish
gray or light gray loam about 6 inches thick. The substratum to
a depth of 60 inches or more is a brown or grayish brown, light
gray startified loam, silty clay loam or sandy loam.
Permeability of the Havre soil is moderate. Available water
capacity is moderate to moderately high. Effective rooting depth
is 60 inches. Runoff is slow and the erosion hazard for water is
moderate. Wind erosion hazard is slight.
The unit is mainly used for rangeland and wildlife habitat. It
is also used for pasture.
The present plant community consists of cheat grass with big sage
and greasewood.
