2002 -25- 003-2203
I • flexible-wall permeameter with back-pressure saturation and a constant rate of flow
(ASTM D5084, Method D). The fill was recompacted to the in-place density measured
during nuclear density tests and the corresponding moisture content (as determined from
oven-dried samples). The nucleaz density value measured in the field was corrected for
coazse particles according to ASTM D4718. Laboratory tests yielded coefficients of
permeability for the CQA samples from 2.7 x 10-~ cm/sec to 7.4 x 10-9 cm/sec, all of which
aze less than the specified maximum permeability of 1 x 10-6 cm/sec. The permeability test
results for the SLF aze presented in Appendix I-3 and summarized in Table 9.
4.1.6 Bulk Specific Gravity
Golder conducted one bulk specific gravity test of SLF at Golder's laboratory in Lakewood,
Colorado. Testing was performed in accordance with ASTM C127 for performing rock
corrections to the Proctor compaction tests.
• 4.2 Field Testing and Monitoring
Golder observed all fill operations in the Phase IVa Area to verify, when necessary, lift
thickness, adequate compaction, and acceptable moisture conditions. When Golder performed
nuclear density testing, holes made in the fill during testing were filled by tamping SLF into the
holes. Golder standazdized nucleaz gauges at the start of each day's work according to
ASTM D2922.
4.2.1 Underround Workings
Golder monitored remediation of underground workings, including verification that
excavations were performed to minimum required dimensions, and that CP, CR, geogrid, SF,
and SSF were installed as specified.
L~
I:\00\2203\OGOp\CenRep0H02\00]22030000.06'/4pptdoc Golder Associates
