2002 -26- 003-2203
4.2.1.1 Concrete Plug and Cemented Rockfill
Golder observed placement and testing of CP material used in construction of the Phase IVa
Area. Golder observed and documented testing of approximately 13 cubic yazds of concrete
for slump, air entrainment, temperature, placement time and compressive strength. Two tests
were performed on slump, and one test was performed on compressive strength for a testing
frequency of approximately one test per 13 cubic yazds. This exceeded the minimum
specified testing frequency of one test per every 50 cubic yards. All tests met compressive
strength specification. The concrete observation and test results aze presented in Appendix H
and summazized in Table 15.
Golder observed the manufacturing and placement of CR including processing of FSB and
cement addition rate. Golder verified at the volumetric mixing truck outlet that the FSB met
the gradation specified. Golder also verified at the volumetric mixing truck that cement was
added at a minimum rate of 6 percent by dry weight. Cement addition rates were tested at
approximately one test per 300 tons.
4.2.1.2 Flowable Fill
During the remediation of UG-545, Golder observed the drilling of plug placement holes,
placement of tunnel plug materials (pea gravel), drilling of flowable fill placement holes, and
placement of the flowable fill. Golder observed and documented the height of the flowable
fill in the tunnel. The compressive strength of the flowable fill was not tested since the Fill
will remain in compression (not shear) under load.
4.2.1.3 Geogrid and Select Structural Fill
For remediation of the UG-456 lateral, Golder observed Ames excavating a minimum of
1 foot over the blasted underground working area, and placing two layers of UX 1700 HS
i geogrid. The bottom layer of geogrid was installed with six inches of SSF cover and the
c~omzio3woomcerca.poso:~oo3sso3oaoooa,aaeeoo Golder Associates
