Water Source and Usage
At this time, negotiations involving several options are underway
for a source of water for processing activities. Jack Pine
Mining Company has existing junior water rights on adjacent
properties. It would be more practical to utilize water from the
drainage in Brown Gulch ( a source included in the permit
application area). A third option would be to obtain water from
Clear Creek. Daily water capacity, when the processing plant is
operating, will be approximately 50 gallons per minute. Usage is
expected to be approximately 15 gallons per minute during
operation.
9. Affects on Surface and Ground Water Quality
• The Heavy Media Plant will recirculate as much water as possible.
The system will have a capacity of 50 GPM, but a daily
consumption of only 15 GPM. Any water to be discharged from
mining or processing activities will report to the tailings pond
or water treatment plant, where it will be held, treated or
recirculated. There will be no chemicals used in the operational
processing, therefore water treatment will be simplified in
preparation for re-use.
Surface water from the drainage in Brown Gulch may be disturbed
during the re-mining of the Smuggler and Slide Dumps.
Degradation of the existing water quality is not anticipated due
to the granitic host rocks and the fact that new material will
not be exposed. Only existing broken materials will be removed.
In order to meet discharge water quality parameters that may
apply, this water could be diverted to the tailings pond for
treatment prior to discharge.
During the time of processing of the Slide Dump and the
Smuggler/Slide Dump, Particular care will be taken to insure that
the path of the water from Brown Gulch will not be changed. The
water now feeds into a culvert which routes the water under I-70
to Clear Creek. In addition, proper guards will be placed and
care taken to protect the condition and integrity of the existing
culvert. Upon the completion of the processing, the route of the
water from Brown Gulch to the culvert will be made permanent. To
• insure the permanency, the route will be channeled if necessary.
9
