• Treatment, if necessary, may include sediment removal by
thickening, contaminant removal by passive treatment such as bogs
cf mixed vegetation, ion exchange by zeolites and heavy metals
removal by neutralization and precipitation. Testing to define
an appropriate water treatment system will coincide with the
teginning mine development program.
10. Since the permit application area is part of an on-going
tasin-wide Superfund study area, the applicant anticipates
tiomonitoring as well as meeting Safe Drinking Water Act numeric
standards that currently apply to this operation.
Water treatment prior to discharge may include neutralization,
precipitation, ion exchange, and clarification. Based upon our
current understanding of applicable water quality standards for
discharge into Clear Creek, this system should be adequate. Jack
Pine Mining Company, in anticipation of more stringent standards
that may be applicable, is allowing for an auxiliary water
treatment plant should the proposed plan not meet the prevailing
criteria.
•

10
