1Xefederal e-Qluentguidelines thatgovern dischargesfrom sandandgravel miningjacililles (40 CFR 436) control mostsurfacerunoff
from mining facilities. However, there are some sources ojstormwater from these sites which are not addressed, such as roads and
railroad lines, pond outrlopes, inactive laadouh, sites used for storage and maintenance of material handling equipment, etc.
For sand and gravel operations, other mining and quarrying ofnonmetaBic minerals exceptfuels, and jot asphalt and connete batch
plane located at such facilities, this general permit wil/cover both the process water dischasges and stormwater discharges. Process
water discharges. are addrused under Part I.B ojthe permit; stormwater discharges are addressed under Part I.C ojthe permit
This will eliminate the need jot coverage under more than one permitfor mostsuch facilities. However, as discussed in Section 1!A,2.a
of the Rationale, somefacilities may wish to applyfor an individual permit instead, in order to take advantage ajsome federal e-(fluent
guidelines not inc/uded here. Additionany, as discussed in Section IHB ojthe Rationale, the Rater Quality Control Division of the
an individual permit .
