Ms. Maggie Koperski
June 22, 1977
Page 3
Estey Ranch Pit #1:
1. A U.S.G.S. quad with the pit to scale and access is enclosed. The access
road is not included as affected area since this is a pre-existing road used
by the Estey's and tenants for wheat hauling and access to the remaining acreage.
The road will remain as is after excavation and reclamation and will not be
reclaimed.
2. As mentioned in the application, portions of the area immediately south of
the Quillen operation were previously disburbed. Although not legally required
to do so, Quillen has reclaimed this previously disturbed area. Topsoil and
overburden are being stockpiled within the permit boundaries. Overburden will be
stockpiled mainly on the southeast, close to the pit face. Topsoil will be
stockpiled on the southwest of each segment.
3. Processing will be crushing and screening on site and will be located
roughly on the south edge of each segment. Excavation will take place from
south to north.
4. 1977 mining as well as future mining will proceed from south to north.
5. Maximum depth of the mine will be 25 - 30 feet, depending upon amount of
overburden compared with economic gravel body underneath.
6. Quillen Company agrees to backslope at 3:1 rather than 2:1 as originally
proposed.
7. Overburden will replaced to grade on excavated area and pit slopes within
1 to 1; years. Topsoiling and reseeding will be completed within 2 to 3 years -
generally 2 years.
Villard Pit:
1. A U.S.G.S. quad with pit to scale and access is enclosed. The access road
is not included as affected area since this is a pre-existing road used by the
Villards to haul feed into the winter bedding area. The road will remain as
is after reclamation and excavation and will not be reclaimed.
2. Since the application was s~tbpriiied on the Villard Pit in April, 1977,
excavation has been completed and reclamation started. The west pit slope still
needs to be graded. This will be finished at 3:1 as requested.
3. Overburden is now stockpiled on the southwest corner of the site and will be
used to complete the 3:1 contour on the west slope.
4. Topsoil is,prese~4tty stockpiled on the northwest corner of the site. It
appears that there is sufficient topsoil to replace 6"-9" on the west slope and
most of the pit floor. This should be completed in 1977.
