• All seeding rates suggested are based on drilled stands.
If broadcast seeding is required as already stated, these
rates will be doubled.
II-3.7 Seeding Depth
Seeding depth is governed by soil texture and seed size.
The optimum depth of planting for all drilled species would
be 1/4 to 3/4 inch below the surface.
II-3.8 Time of Seeding
Time of seeding is very critical. The species to be
used will be planted in the fall or early spring. For both
study areas, the most appropriate period is in the fall after
• mid-September and in late April and early May when optimum
soil moisture.conditions exist.to allow planting and covering
the seed with .the recommended depth of soil. Overburden and
I topsoil stockpiles for reclamation will be planted with a
L cover crop prior to May 30 as previously discussed.
r
II-3.9 Seeding Method
`- It is anticipated that all seeding (both of cover crop
and permanent species) wil'_ be done with a drill or
hydromulcher. Techniques will be used to insure a mellow
L
~~:
-50-
