• surface and a relatively firm seedbed for maximum seed
\ germination and seedling establishment. Drill seeding will
,_ be done on the contour where slopes permit.

II-4.0 REPEGETATION SIICCESS AND MONITORING
II-4.1 Pegetation Reference Areas
During implementation of the baseline vegetation studies,
two reference areas were established for each of the
vegetation types delineated on the strip mine study Brea.
r
,_ Due to the relatively small amount of disturbance planned
-- for the underground portal study area, no reference areas
were established. Success of revegetation in this area will
_ • be determined by standards set by the pre-mining vegetation
inventory for the big sagebrush type. This type is discussed
in the Vegetation Inventory.
- Both reference areas were sampled for production, cover,
woody plant density and species diversity. For the strip
~ mine study area these reference areas will be used for woody
` plant density and diversity comparisons when determining
_, revegetation success for the mountain shrub type and
pinyon-juniper types. Cover (both types) and production
- in the pinyon-juniper type revegetation values will be
compared to the study area pre-mining data since reference
~~
- 51 -
