Since there will be some swell Erom mining operatio s in the
• South Central and South Phases, it will probably make sense
to backfill some of the excess spoils into the outhern
parts of the North Central area. This will be discussed
with ML RD before proceeding.
Mininq Operations
(1) Where topsoil is available, it will be rem ved and
stockpiled for later placement on mined areas. here is
insufficient topsoil remaining in the already d sturbed
areas. Only about 14 acres can be spread at a ix-inch
thickness of topsoil. In new mining areas, topsoi~ depths
range from six to 12 inches.
(2) Existing slopes in the area are 18 to 48. The e are a
few areas of deeper ravines. The final topograph of the
area will be gently sloping to the southwest.
(3) The soils are porous in the mined area. Exces drain-
age is not anticipated to be a problem. i
Topsoil Application
(1) After backfilling and grading have been accom lished,
the stockpiled topsoil will be returned to the rec amation
• site. Topsoil application will depend on the particular
area of application, but will average 4 to 12 inches over
the affected areas, j
(2) The fines Erom the processing of mined materi'ls will
be pumped to the settling ponds after the gold is removed.
Although the fines are expected to have little organic
material in them, their size and texture will provide a
reasonable topsoil substitute. As they accumulate, the
fines will be removed from the ponds periodically an spread
over graded areas which previously had limited topso 1.
Fertilization
u
Seed Bed Preparation
(1) All areas to be reclaimed will be fertilized a~cording
to soil test recommendations.
(2) Fertilizer will be added during seed bed pre aration
and will be incorporated into the top two to four in hes.
(1) The application
lish a seed bed more
exists.
of topsoil and amendments shoul estab-
productive than that which currently
(2) The seed bed will be tilled and then compa ted to
insure the proper medium for seed germination.
16
