MINING AREA -Gravel extraction will begin edher rn Extraction Area "A", or Extradton Area "B", depending upon
market demands Once the resource has been depleted, mining will sequentially move though the other identified
extraction areas Once the resource is removed from Extraction Area "A", this area will then serve as a permanent
staging and stockpile area until mining has been finished on the remaining identified extraction areas Approximately
83.8 acres of the permit boundary is identified for use as sand and gravel extraction actwdy The maximum area
disturbed at any one fime will be 45 acres
Preliminary sub-surface mvesUgafions within the identified extraction areas revealed the nature o1 the gravel deposit
The average 25 foot thick sand and gravel layer is m an alluvial deposd overlain with 6 feet to 16 feet of overburden
The sand and gravel is sluated on top of a relative flat bedrock layer of shale
When the gravel extraction process begins. the first step of the process will be the soil overburden removal The
overburden will be removed using scrapers, loaders and haul trucks and stored In stockpies adjacent tothe extrad~on
area
Overburden vnll be stockpiled adtacent to the extraction areas To prevent eroson, the stockpdets) will be seeded
within t2 months of then establishment All of the stockpiled overburden will ultimately be used in the reclamation
process.
The sand and gravel extraction process will be conducted using loaders. and;or excavators. Blasting of the resource is
not necessary. Haul trucks will transport the resource to the process area. or to the ultimate delivery see Each phase
will include a layer of sand and gravel up to 15 feet thick until the deposit reaches the underty~ng bedrock strata Test
bonngs on the propeAy have revealed that the seasonal high ground water table ~s approximately 10 feet below the
natural ground surface Therefore, pit de-walenng will be required es part of the mining efforts Water will be pumped
to existing drainage ditches on the property and will be transported approximately 1000 feet southwesterly to the
Colorado River Since ground water is present. an NPDES (discharge) permit will be requred so that the discharged
water will not create adverse impacts to the river
CRUSHING AND STOCKPILE AREA -All gravel processing of the excavated matenal will occur wAhin the identified
stag~nglprocess area The screened or crushed material will be stockpiled nearby according to size in an area
separate from overburden and topsoil stockpiles
ASPHALT PRCDUCTICN - A portable asphalt plant may be erected on the site from time to time. Material crushed on
site will be used for asphalt production MaximUnl production for the portable plant is 4000 tons per day Asphalt
production is seasonal and normally occurs between March and November The plant meets or exceeds all State and
Federal pollution regwrements, and is inspected on a regular basis by corporate and governmental authorities
Components assocated wdh the asphalt plant include ligwd asphalt storage, aggregate feed bins mixer. conveyors,
I~me silo truck loading egwpment power supply and mstnbuhon
