~i
Page 2
Mr. Xreissler
March 11, 1980

3. It appears that the existing access road is to be used for the entire
.mining period. What then is the purpose of the "1Gased access" corridor?
Is this to be disturbed?. Are one or both o£ these access corridors
~ included in the affected acreage?
4. Is the 100' :d~Ffer betweon the mi.' ng operation and the Colorado P,iver
to be totally undisturbed?
Exhibits E and F:
~1. Planting of a grass cover should proceed apace with topsoil replacement.
I Since topsoil replacement is to be done as soon as mining is finished
each year, planting shoul3 also be done to assure long term slope
stablization.
2. Our staff has suggested a similar, but slightly more diverse seed
mlx6ure for an adjacent gravel operation. (also owned by Ms. Chambers).
[•ie would recommend this same seed rti.xture for your site (as follows).
SPECIES LBS. F.L.S.•/ACRE
:Ieatern Wheatgrass 3
Tall Wheatgrass 3
Russian Wildrye 2
Alkali Sara tan Z
Yellow Sweetclover 0.5
• P.L.S. = Pure Live Seed
Tl~e rates given above are drilled rates. If seed is to Le broadcast
(and raked), these rates should be doubled.
3. Roads not remaining after mining should be retopsoiled and planted
with the seed.~i.xture suggested above. Fertil(zing and mulching should
be done as with other seeded areas.
4. Our staff recommends that a modification to the miNi.ng and reclamation
plans be worked out to allow lakes to form in stages 1 and 2 at tl:e
end of mining in each stage (after topsoiling and seeding). Then,
stage 3 could be mined last and the entire lake could be joined at
the end of mining. This would allow final reclamation to be c:mplete
over a large area of the site at a much earlier time and could result
in partial bond release for those areas that have achieved final
reclamation.
S. Are the trees shown on the raa (exlibit F) on the northern and western
perimeters of the site to be undisturbed trees from before reining, or
are they to be planted during reclamation? If they are to be planted,
details of species to be planted and planting techniques and densities
should be given.
(cond't)
