EXI3IBIT E
RECLAMATION PLAN
Section 1 -General Description
For reclamation purposes, the Loveland Pit operation can be split into two parts. The
mining area on Reichert's property will be referred to as the Reichert Pit. The area on
Flatiron Companies' land will be referred to as the Flatiron Pit.
The Reichert Pit will be reclaimed as lowland grass and shrubs. This is intended to
provide natural habitat to native wildlife in the area.
The Reichert Pit constitutes Phase I mining, and will be reclaimed during Phases 2 and 3
mining activity. Native topsoil, subsoil, and overburden stockpiled during mining, will
be used to backfill the pit. Some excavation of the area south of Phase 1 mining (where
Phase 1 overburden stockpiles are located) is necessary to provide growth media in the
bottom of the reclaimed pit, and to balance earthwork for the site.
The Flatiron Pit will be reclaimed as an open-water, unlined reservoir or lowland wildlife
habitat. Grading plans as shown in Exhibit F, Reclamation Plan Map are for an open
reservoir. Reclamation will occur upon completion of Phases 2 and 3. Some reclamation
may begin prior to the completion of mining if this is deemed appropriate for freeing
limited stockpile space or advantageous for dust and erosion control. A pipe will be
installed between the Flatiron Pit and the adjacent existing reservoir for filling and
maintaining water in the reservoir.
Planting and seeding around the perimeter of the lake will follow final grading.
As part of the reclamation process, any buildings or facilities (including concrete pads)
associated with the existing concrete batch plant, proposed asphalt batch plant or wash
plants will be removed. The soil under these buildings or structures will be ripped,
regraded and seeded (see Section 4).
Section 2 -Comparison to Adjacent Land Uses
To a large degree, natural barriers buffer the permit area from surrounding uses. The Big
Thompson River borders the Reichert Pit to the south. On the east is an existing
reservoir, to the north is the Brose Pit, a mining operation nearing completion. Beyond
these barriers, the surrounding land is predominately agricultural, and is zoned as such by
Larimer County.
The Big Thompson River borders the Flatiron Pit to the south and west. An existing
reservoir bounds the permit area in the northwest. A small commercial auto shop and
several residences are immediately to the north of the Flatiron Pit. The surrounding areas
are agricultural and commercial.
