building. The runoff flowing west is diverted around the
C storage yards and reports to the Middle Fork of the '
Purgatorie River at a point where the main access road
crosses the river. The runoff flowing east is diverted
around the tipple building and silos and reports to the
river approximately 500 feet east of pond 007 beyond the
lower most poict of the mine site. All ditches have been
seeded or rip-rapped as necessary to prevent further silting
of the runoff waters. Table 1 lists and describes the
undisturbed areas where water is diverted. Table 2 lists and
describes the diversion channels.
Drainage Areas Disturbed by Mining

The excessive silting of surface disturbed runoff is
controlled by two basic means. Runoff from the large
industrial areas and spoil piles near the east portal is
diverted to settlement ponds. The west portal areas have
been surfaced with gravel to prevent silting. This
runoff is channeled into the river and prevented from
entering the settlement pond system.
Surface runoff from the active spoils pile along the west
side of the main access road and just south of U.S. Highway
12, is channelej to pond 004. This pond is designed to act
as a settlement facility for this active spoils area as well .
as future spoils areas adjacent to the west side of the
u
