pond. Pond 005 is designed to treat the runoff from the
• storage yards immediately west of it. The pond and the
storage yards are located between the railroad and the
Purgatorie River near the Colorado and Wyoming Railroad's
shops and south of pond 004. Drainage from the south
embankment of the active spoils pile mentioned previously,
is channeled to
east of pond
revegitation to
tracks and the
east to pond
pond 006. The runoff from the storage yards
005, the topsoil storage areas, the
st plots, and the strip between the railroad
river extending from the main access road
006, is also channeled to pond 006 for
lZeT
~v1oVQ,
settlement prior to discharge. All runoff from the active
disturbed areas south of the railroad tracks as well as the
small areas below pond 006 north of the tracks, is channeled
• ` into pond 007. Tables 3 and 4 list and describe all
drainage areas and channels respectively for pond settlement
of runoff waters.
Settlement times in the ponds is control l; de' by perforated
drainage risers as well as manually operated stop-gates at
the discharge boxes. Because of the manually controlled
discharges, short-circuiting of runoff can be eliminated and
the entire runoff load sufficiently settled prior to
discharge. The emergency spillways will have more than one
foot of freeboard when passing the peak flows of the ditches
feeding the ponds. They will also pass the runoff from a
25Yr-24Hr storm event with an even greater freeboard. The
• ` pond discharge points have concrete box structures and rip-
5
