8/82 <br />• Louviers series <br />The Louviers series consists of shallow, well drained soils on uplands <br />and side slopes. These soils formed in residuum and colluvium derived <br />dominantly from shale. Slope is 3 to 65 percent. Average annual <br />precipitation is 14 to 18 inches, and average annual air temperature is 48 to <br />52 degrees F. <br />These soils are clayey, mixed, nonacid, mesic, shallow Ustic <br />Torriorthents. <br />Typical pedon of a Louviers very channery clay loam in an area of <br />Louviers-Rambo-Travessilla complex, 30 to 65 percent slopes, about 900 feet <br />south and 1,700 feet east of the northwest corner of sec. 3, T. 31 S., R. 55 <br />W. <br />A--O to 2 inches; grayish brown (2.SY 5/2) channery clay loan, dark <br />• grayish brown (2.SY 4/2) moist; moderate very fine granular structure; hard, <br />firm, sticky and slightly plastic; 30 percent channery fragments; neutral; <br />clear smooth boundary. <br />AC-2 [0 16 inches; grayish brown (2.SY S/2) silty clay loam, dark <br />,, grayish brown (2.SY 4/2) moist; weak coarse subangular blocky structure that <br />parts to moderate fine subangular blocks; hard, firm, sticky and plastic; 20 <br />percent shale fragments; gradual smooth boundary. <br />Cr--Fractured blocky interbedded shale and siltstone. <br /> <br />209 <br />
