B/82 <br />Rombo aeries <br />The Rombo series consists of moderately deep, well drained soils on <br />mountainsides and side slopes. These soils formed in colluvium and residuum <br />derived dominantly from siltstone, shale and basalt. Slope is 25 to 50 <br />percent. Average annual precipitation is 14 to 23 inches, and average annual <br />air temperature is 42 to 47 degrees F. <br />These soils are fine, mixed, frigid Typic Ustochrepts. <br />Typical pedon of a Rombo channery silty clay loam in an area of <br />Midnight-Rombo complex, 35 to 50 percent slopes, about 1.5 miles north of <br />Colorado state line in Colorow Canyon, T. 35 S., R. 65 41. <br />A--O to 4 inches; grayish brown (2.SY 5/2) channery silty clay loam, very <br />dark grayish brown (2.SY 3/2) moist; moderate very fine Rranular structure; <br />hard, firm, sticky and plastic; 15 percent channery, 15 percent flagstones; <br />mildly alkaline; clear smooth boundary. <br />Bw--4 to 24 inches; grayish brown (2.SY 5/2) channery silty clay loam, <br />dark grayish brown (2.SY 4/2) moist; moderate fine subangular blocky <br />structure; very hard, very firm, sticky and plastic; 15 percent channery, 10 <br />percent shale fragments; neutral; clear smooth boundary. <br />BC--24 [0 34 inches; gray (2.SY 5/0) silty clay loam, dark gray (2.SY <br />5(1) moist and crushed; weak fine aubangulac blocky structure; very hard, <br />firm, sticky and plastic; 35 percent shale fragments; neutral; clear smooth <br />boundary. <br />Cr--34 Co 60 inches; soft siltstone and shale. <br />Depth to bedrock and thickness of the solum are 20 to 40 inches. The <br />solum is 22 to 40 inches thick. The control section is !0 to 35 percent rock <br />• fragments. Texture is silty clay loam or clay loam. Clay content is 35 to <br />50 percent. Reaction is neutral or mildly alkaline. <br />208 <br />
