• 8/82 <br />PjF--Louviers-Rombo-Travessilla complex, 30 [0 65 percent elopes. <br />This map unit is on side slopes and ridges of foothills. The native <br />vegetation Ls mainly pinyon, juniper, and grass. Elevation is 6,500 to <br />7,800 feet. The average annual precipitation is about 14 [0 18 inches, the <br />average annual air temperature is 45 to 52 degrees F, and the average <br />frost-free season is 115 to 135 days. <br />This unit is 40 percent Louviers very channery clay loam, 20 percent <br />Rombo stony clay loam, and 15 percent Travessilla channery loam. The <br />Louviers and Rombo soils are on very steep side slopes. The Rombo soil is <br />on north-facing side slopes, and the Travessilla soil is on ridges. <br />Included in this unit are 10 percent Ptieta loam and IO percent Rock <br />outcrop. The Prieta soil is on broad ridgetops, and Rock outcrop occurs as <br />• ~ bands of sandstone near the crest of side slopes. Also included are small <br />areas of Fort Collins Loam at [he base of side slopes. The Fort Collins <br />soil is deep to bedrock. <br />The Louviers soil is shallow and yell drained. It formed in residuum <br />and colluvium derived dominantly from shale. Typically, the surface layer <br />is very channery clay loam 4 inches thick. The upper 9 Inches of the <br />underlying material is clay loam, and the lover 3 inches is shaly clay. <br />Interbedded shale and silts tone are at a depth of 16 inches. The soil is <br />neutral throughout. Content of shale fragments ranges from 10 co 50 <br />percent. Depth to bedrock ranges from IO to 20 inches. <br />Permeability of the Louviers soil is~ss~e~ sloe. Available eater <br />capacity is very low. Effective rooting depth Ss !0 [0 20 inches.
