• have been seeded as soon as possible after mining. These
areas of mino are not anticipated to exceed 160
acres. T is assumes that areas w is ave een revege at~d~
will be released from financial warranty after five to ten
years of successful seasons of growth.
REVEGETATION:
Revegetation, the final step in the reclamation
process, should be relatively easy as the soils are of good
quality. However, the generally dry conditions of this area
may well hinder rapid development, something that cannot be
easily overcome, with anything short of irrigation.
However, in this area of intense variability in
precipitation, irrigation would be ecologically undesirable.
After distribution of topsoil and before seeding,
fertilizer will be spread at the rate of 30 pounds each of
nitrogen and phosphorous per acre. This is a general
fertilizer application rate that may be modified according
to particular conditions such as the addition of mulches,
slope characteristics, etc. The vegetation growth itself is
the best indicator of fertilizer needs. If growth is slow
and vegetative signs indicate certain mineral deficiencies
these elements can be added. It is not anticipated severe
problems will appear as a result of nutritional deficiencies
• because the soil is normally of good productive
capabilities.
The seed mixture proposed is the same as will be used
on the existing permitted area. The mixture is as follows:
SPECIES
Blue Grama
Side-oats Grama
Little Bluestem
Western Wheatgrass
Streambank Wheatgrass
Intermediate Wheatgrass
White Clover
RATE (#PLS/ACRE-DRILLED
1
2
0
3
2
3
0
12.0
If the area is broadcast seeded, these rates will be
doubled.
Topsoil stockpiles will not generally be in place very
long once the operation is fully coordinated, but those that

- 17 -
