• Generally, topsoil removal will occur on only as much
land as is needed to be mined in the coming year. This
amount of land stripping will vary depending upon
anticipated material demand; the amount of stripped land
remaining from previous mining activity; and the amount of
soil needed to perform the reclamation work required to stay
within the acreage quantity for the moderate disturbance
category.
When replacing the topsoil, the graded surface will be
left rough enough to prevent any slippage. On slopes, the
final grading, where possible, will be across the slope so
as to create a series of ridges against which any slippage
must operate. This process should help create a stable soil
medium capable of growth without significant disturbances
due to slumping.
When replacing soil on slopes it will also be roughened
in a direction perpendicular to the slope. This will help
control erosion and provide many areas where seed can
collect and grow most rapidly under enhanced moisture regime
conditions.
Replacement of topsoil will be to a depth of 6" to 12"
on all areas. More will be replaced when it is available.
Fertilization will occur in accordance with the
Revegetation plan.
TIMING:
Mining and reclamation is a continuing process
throughout the life of the operation. As mining progresses,
grading for reclamation is accomplished. Once an area will
no longer be subject to disturbance by the operation, it
will be reseeded as soon as the seasons permit. As stated
in Exhibit D, the maximum disturbance is estimated to occur
between 1990 and 1995.
During this time period three areas will be mined.
Approximately 6700 lineal feet of working face will be
active. This area plus two topsoil and overburden
stockpiles, and haul roads will constitute approximately 27
acres of major disturbance. Material product stockpiles and
operating areas wi-1 bye at a maximum. These areas with
adjacent areas which are prepared for seeding will encompas
approximately 90 arrow a-£-m~,~aratP d;~rrrhance. The
remainder of the area which had been previously mined (less
topsoil and overburden stockpile areas and access roads)
will no longer be subject to disturbance by mining and shall
•
- 16 -
