Also, there are no underground aspects of
this operation.
As indicated previously, most of the area to be mined
will be returned to a slope of very nearly 1%. No
will be formed as a result of this operation. ew areas
will be sloped steeper than 1%, except the pit side slopes.
These will be graded to a maximum slope of 2:1 and where
possible an even more gradual slope will be produced,
particularly on south facing slopes.
This operation is not
influence on the prevailing
The pit is a dry operation.
expected to have any measurable
hydrologic balance of the area.
The groundwater will not be intercepted. Runoff is
minimal at present. No wells will be used or drilled. If
process water is used, it will be hauled to the site after
purchase form the City of Fountain.
In reclamation, all the original drainage patterns will
be re-established. In effect there will not be any change
in the surface or subsurface water quantity or quality.
No earth dams will be built to impound water or control
erosion.
According to the original Colorado Division of Wildlife
report, no significant wildlife resources exist in the area
and, in their opinion, no significant negative impacts will
occur. It is fully recognized that some negative impacts,
primarily displacement, will occur, but these are
insignificant and should not even be noticeable. An update
to the original 1982 report has been requested and it will
be provided to the Division as soon as it is available.
Topsoil will be removed as described in the mining
plan. Most of the soil to be used in reclamation will come
from the Schmidt area, but some can also be acquired from
the Cline area. A minimum of 242,000 cubic yards of topsoil
will be saved. Most will be redistributed immediately thus
eliminating the need for large stockpiles. In the event
storage is needed for more than a year the stockpiles will
be planted with the topsoil stabilization seed mixture
listed in the Revegetation section of this plan.
- 15 -
