• 2) Regarding of contour furrows to provide continuous grade for runoff control with
suitable mobil equipment to hold grade. Grade and alignment stakes will be supplied
for equipment operators.
3) Contour furrows will be designed as temporary structures based on the 10-year 24-
hour event. A V-ditch cross section is anticipated.
4) To limit runoff area and water velocities on reclaimed slopes, cross channels or
furrows will be constructed, at slight gradients, draining to the existing improved
channels. Cross channels will be constructed on approximate 50 foot centers or as
required by the topography.
5) Nondestructive velocity control devices such as silt fences, straw bales, etc., will be
used as required to maintain furrow stability. It is also the intent to use these control
devices to silt in the contour furrows as vegetation cover increases and side slopes
stabilize. This silting in of the furrows will eventually eliminate them. Need for these
controls will be based on the results of the long term monitoring program.
6) If additional measures are required to maintain contour furrow stability, consideration
will be given to the use of improved channels beyond the existing channels. The
appropriate technical revisions for these improved channels will then be filed before
construction begins.
• 7) Technical revisions for the existing northeast and southeast improved channels will
be submitted after the acceptance of the rill and gully plan. If riprap is elected to
stabilize improved channels, an alternate source acceptable to the CMLRD will be
located.
8) Repair existing rills and gullies:
• Using clean fill material to fill rills and gullies.
• Using topsoil as top dressing from stockpile areas. The appropriate request will
be filed with the CMLRD before topsoil is removed from stockpile areas.
• Working only as ground and weather conditions permit, generally in the fall to
allow reseeding of the graded area immediately. If an unusually large
precipitation event creates excessive rills and gullies steps will be taken to
minimize additional erosion damage until the area can be repaired.
• Minimizing disturbance to adjacent reclaimed areas.
• Reseeding the repaired area and applying heavy mulch or other suitable erosion
control devices, if the mulch does not provide stabilization for the seed to
• 2.05-14
