higher ridges of the area, blue grouse can be found in the <br />summer in the mountain shrub type. <br />The rocky cliffs in the area provide several miles <br />of suitable raptor nesting habitat. No active nests have <br />been identified, but active golden eagle and peregrine <br />falcon aeries are in Glenwood Canyon a few miles to the <br />east. <br />Bald eagles are occasionally seen along the <br />Colorado River in Glenwood Canyon throughout the winter <br />months. Other raptors Birds are frequently observed on <br />hunting forays along the river or perched in cottonwood <br />trees. Otherwise, there are no known threatened or endangered <br />species of animal life in the areas of the proposed quarry <br />sites. <br />This area is not a wild horse range nor a summer <br />cattle grazing area. <br />8. Cultural features (prehistoric and historic) <br />No historic sites are listed for the area. After <br />one of the proposed sites is selected for the quarry a <br />cultural resource inventory of the area to be disturbed will <br />be accomplished. <br />9. Aesthetics (VRM) <br />A series of terraces and buttes serves as the <br />transition between the Colorado River (elevation 5,700 feet) <br />and the Flat Tops (elevation 10,000 to 11,000 feet). The <br />vertical elements of these geologic formations are steep <br />taluses and rock cliffs showing horizontal rock strata that <br />form the base of the Flat Tops.
