Gray and tan rock colors emphasize this pattern <br />and are augmented by sharp shadow patterns during the da}•. <br />The contrast of the cliff faces and flatter terraces extending <br />in the ascent to the Flat Tops creates a dramatic landscape <br />that is visually dominated by a landform which has been <br />eroded into a rough texture of dissected valleys and round <br />topped ridges. The east and west facing slopes have a <br />pinyon-juniper and mountain brush vegetative cover which <br />adds a multi-colored, spotty texture to the land surface. <br />The locations of quarry site proposals P and 3 are <br />not visible from Highway I-70 nor the Glenwood Springs <br />populated areas. <br />The present quarry at site 2 is visible from the <br />southern half of Glenwood Springs as well as from other <br />inhabited areas along the Roaring Fork and Colorado River <br />velleys. Also, a quarry at site 9 being adjacent to both <br />Glenwood Springs, West Glenwood and Highway I-70 would be <br />visible from these locations as well as many other inhabited <br />areas along the Roaring Fork and Colorado River valleys. <br />10. Recreation Resources (existing and potential) <br />The public lands of the Oasis and No Name Creeks <br />area are used for hunting and hiking. The Transfer Trail <br />road through the area provides BLM management access and <br />Forest Service access to the Flat Tops area. <br />11. Socio-economic Conditions <br />The Glenwood Springs service area has a population <br />of approximately 12,000. It is a combined service center <br />for the 12,000 population and a tourist center with its main <br />
