• R86W. Walk transecta conducted during August 1980 by wildlife
biologists revealed a number of mule deer within the proposed permit
area, including bucks, does and fawns. It appears that the area
does receive some year-round use by deer but probably receives more
during the summer. As previously stated, no steep south facing
slopes which would be free of snow during the critical periods were
found in the proposed persist area.
Blaek Bear. The IISDI-FWS-0BS (1978) states that black beaz are
potential users of the proposed permit area. Based on the
territorial requirements of this species, they probably occur
occasionally in this region. A Local resident reported seeing one
bear in the area in 1979. No sightings nor any sign vas observed by
• CYCC biologists during the August 1980 walk transecta and
observations. fiRT/Ecology Consultants (1978) reported no findings
for the adjacent area and to the north of the proposed permit
boundary and concluded that black bear are unlikely for that area.
Cougar. The OSDI-FWS-0BS (1978) report does not show nay use
of the proposed permit area by cougar. Aasesaoents of adjacent
areas by DSDI-BLM (1979) and fiRT/ficology Consultants (1978) reveal
no observations or sign of cougar and report them as possibly
occurring but unlikely for the area. Observation by CYCC wildlife
biolgiats during 1980 revealed no sightings nor any sign.
•
2.04-96
