Revised April, 1984
in Table 12, Big Sagebrush Vegetation Type.
Alkali Sagebrush vegetation Type
The Alkali Sagebrush Vegetation Type can be found on a variety
of elopes and aspects within the proposed permit area. The type's
location typically corresponds to the soil characteristics.
Soils on the area can range from a sandy clay loam to a silty
clay. The A horizon can range from 1 to 8 inches in depth. The
soils associated with Alkali Sagebrush vegetation are characterized
by a strongly structured and fine teatured substratum that restricts
eater permeability, plant moisture availability and plant growth.
• The alkali sagebrush plant community is dominated by a
sagebrush overstory that constitutes 62 percent of the plant cover.
Prairie Junegrass and Letterman's needlegrasa are the principal
understory species, collectively comprising 16.5 percent of the
plant cover. The total plant cover on the area vas measured to be
22.4 percent and the annual herbaceous production vas measured at
9.5 g/'ya2. A summary of measurements taken on the type is presented
in Table 13, Alkali Sagebrush Vegetation Type.
Summer
Historically, the proposed permit area has been used for
livestock production and wildlife utilization.
• The area was previously disturbed under Colorado liining Permit
2.04-78a
