collected in the pond during the early years of CYMC's operations. It was only after the
construction of the road around the east side of the south waste pile, and the resulting
mobilization of fines trapped in that pile, that significant quantities of sedunent collected. Based
on this experience, once the waste piles have had a chance to stabilize subsequent to any
operations, sediment buildup in the pond should go almost to zero.
(f1 Reclamation Costs: Reclamation activities anticipated include backfilling smaller
quarry entries, fencing of larger quarry entries, sedimentation control structure cleanout, and
revegetation of approximately 1/3 acre of surface area. The table below presents a cost estimate
of such work based on the assumption that an independent wntractor is hired to complete the
work.
Item Estimated Cost
Backfill Portals & Drainage Pipe (1) $ 6,000
Sediment Pond cleanout (2) 2,560
Entry Fencing (3) 3,000
Sub-soil Preparation (4) 640
Topsoil Hauling (5) 6,750
Topsoil Spreading (6) 640
Grass Seeding & Mulching (7) 350
Tree and Shrub Planting (8) 1,650
Remove Temporary Fencing, Cables, & Curtains (9) 2,560
Trail Improvements (] 0) 1.920
Total Estimated Reclamation Cost $26.070
(1) Assume iwo portals, each 16 feet by 16 feet Assume 500 yards of waste rock for each (600 feet of lineal fill in
the adits), for a total of 1200 yards. A large loader will full the adits at the portals, followed by a large backhow to
add material above the portals and compact the waste to a height of approximately 6 feet above the top of the portal.
Assume sixteen hours of earthwork using a large wheel loader at a rate of;200 per hour including labor,
consumables, and mobilization ($3,200). An additional 4 hours with a large backhce at $200 per hour will also be
required (3800). Waste material is readily available from existing waste piles close to entries. Large waste blacks
will be placed, then voids filled with smaller waste rock and fines. A 4 inch drainage pipe will be placed in the
lowest portal before backfilling to allow drainage from the quarry down tot the sediment conhol structure, a distance
of about 300 feet. A screened sump inside the quarry will collect water. The cost of the sump, pipe, and
installation is estimated at 32,000.
(2) Assume two days of work for a backhoe at 380 per hour to perform initial cleanout, then a return trip after iwo
years for a final cleanout
(3) Assume five foot steel or iron fencing with pickets placed on spacing of 4 inches and pointed tops designed to
discourage climbers, similar to that placed by the Inactive Mine Program (IMP) in the mid-1980s. Fencing should be
placed so that at no time may the public be subject to rack falls from above the quarry entries. The total length of
fencing is estimated at 100 feet as much of the fencing placed by IMP is still in place and effective. The cost is
estimated at 330 per lineal foot including installation labor and mobilization for a total of 33,000. This estimate is
z7
