Successful reclemation of this area will be dependent upon several factors -not just [he actual
seeding.
Final slope grades should not exceed 3:1 in steepness, with 3:1 or ~:l being optimal. In
general, successful revegetation increasee as the percent slope decreases. Small areas with
slopes steeper than 3:1 are sometimes unavoidable, but should be kept to a minimum.
During gravel extraction, topsoil should be stockpiled for later use. The stockpiled topsoil
should be seeded to the enclosed seeding recommendation if the soil is to remain stockpiled
for longer than one growing season. Upon completion of the gravel extraction, topsoil should
be spread out over the areas the disturbed area - if overburden topsoil exists. Prior to
topsoiling, the underlying material should be steed to provide a good bond between
substratum and the topsoil. Without adequate topsoiling, revegetation success is unlikely.
Seedbed preparation is important in establishing permanent, vegetative cover. Seed should be
placed'/. to'/: inch deep into a friable, but firm seedbed.
The best time to seed anon-irrigated area is in the fall, just prior to ground freezing. This
allows the seed to remain dormant in the grand until spring when it can germinate and utilize
spring moisture.
Seedine Recommendations:
Tvoe of mi: ~ •/. Ylia Ratr.
