R$SULTS :L"CI) DISCUSSION

A total of seven fish species was collected by electrofishing on
August 17, 1979 which included white sucker (Catostomus cortunersoni),
flannelmouth sacker (Catostcmus latipinnis), redside shiner (Richardsonius
balteatus), speckled dace (Rhinichthys osculus), rainbow trout (Saimo
gairdneri), mottled sculpin (Cottus bairdi), and mountain whitefish
(Prosopium williamsoni) (Table 1). The species which represent recrea-
tional importance as a game fish are the rainbow trout and mountair.
whitefish.
Relatively low numbers of Eish were collected along Both ccar.sects.
Cf the 2E fist captured in the upstream portion, redside shiner ar.d
white sucker were the most abundant species, recresenting SS and 19°; of
*_i~e fetal .arch, r.espe•_t:.e!_' ;Table i). The ether four species _ _-
tured in the upstream transect ccnsi.s..ed of or.iy cne or two specime:u
each. Fish composition in the dowastream portion was similar to the
upstream section except for the presence of mountain whitefish and
absence of mottled sculpin and rainbow trout in the do~:nstrear.~ transect.
However, mottled sculpin were observed in the downstream area, even
though no specimens were captured. A total of 22 fish was collected in
the downstream transect, consisting mostly of speckled dace (32%),
redside shiner (2i'bj, and white sucker (18%). Heav-7 rains occurred tae
day preceding the survey, c:hich increased the turbidity and probably
reduced the efficiency for capturing smaller fish, especially mottled
sculpin.
• Lengths and weights of captured fish are presented in ?'able 2.
Since re la Cicely few specimens were captured for each species, condition
\_
coefficients were not calculated. However, it is worth noting that the
3
